Rama vows to make Cebu ‘tourist city’

IF ELECTED mayor of Cebu City, Michael Rama will give the tourism sector a boost.

In a press conference yesterday, Cebu City Vice Mayor Rama, who is seeking the mayor’s seat in May, outlined his vision for the sector.

One of Rama’s objectives is to push for a massive tourism project for Cebu that would entail order and development in the city’s roads, traffic and coastal areas, and the enhancement of the city’s heritage.

Flourish

“I want to make Cebu a tourist city to further keep business and investments flourishing,” said Rama in a press conference at the Rajah Park Hotel yesterday.

Rama is the mayoralty candidate of the BOPK (Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan).

While open to business opportunities, Rama stressed that he welcomes businesses that strictly comply with the local government’s rules and regulations.

He added that he will initiate more projects that will bring in more participation from the stakeholders. One of these, he said, is the development of the city’s heritage.

Preserve

“There are so many establishments in Cebu that need to be preserved because of the history they bear. Colon, the country’s oldest street, is one example,” Rama said.

He said improving the image of areas in the city will not only preserve the city’s heritage but also build confidence among tourists as they roam the city.

As for the South Road Properties, Rama said he will use every area of it to become an added attraction to tourists.

“The coastal areas should be utilized and more infrastructure should be put up to further boost the income of the city,” he said, referring to the real estate projects, high-rise condominiums, convention centers and other investments devoted to the property.

Rama expressed his intention of sitting with members of the business chambers of Cebu to discuss the concerns of the different sectors, particularly the export and micro, small and medium enterprises sectors.
