A CHARTERED government corporation will set up a trade house that will showcase Cebuano furniture products that can be exported to the Russian market.
The Philippine International Trading Corp. (PITC) will establish a product depot that will feature products from export companies within the small and medium enterprise (SME) category, said PITC president Jorge Mendoza Judan.
“The focus is to assist the SMEs,” said Judan last Friday, adding that the program is also in line with the agency’s thrust as mandated by its charter.
Judan, however, did not say when the trade house will be established. But he said it be after PITC will launch the one in Manila next week.
“After Manila, Cebu will take the lead, especially (with the) number of exporters in Cebu and they no longer have to go to Manila to showcase products there,” he said. PITC will also establish a trade house in Davao.
With the trade house, manufacturers of furniture, house ware and house decors will be spared freight and warehousing costs for orders going to Russia since PITC will also assist in the logistics.
Aside from this, PITC also acts as the “order-taker” from the Russian market.
Under the program, Judan said the trade house will also feature services. He cited architectural firm Palafox Associate, which rendered design services for Russians with the help of PITC.
He said Cebu furniture makers can supply pieces included in the designs.
The PITC was scheduled to meet with the Department of Trade and Industry 7 to discuss the mechanics of the program.
“We are excited to do this in Cebu since (the province) is very aggressive in the Russian market,” Judan said.
