Real estate developer ‘tops off’ BPO building

ABOITIZLAND, Inc. is set to complete its first commercial development dedicated to serve the growing business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.

Company officials, led by chairman Roberto Aboitiz and chief operations officer Andoni Aboitiz, topped off iMEZ—the BPO facility at the AboitizLand-operated Mactan Export Zone (MEZ) II—last March 23.

iMEZ is an anchor building of the Pueblo Verde commercial block within MEZ II. The five-storey structure will house BPO companies on the upper four levels and retail-commercial outlets on the ground floor.

The second to fourth levels of the building consists of approximately 4,000 square meters of space. Utilities have been carefully laid underground so as not to interfere with the picture-perfect ambiance of the neighborhood.

Companies locating at iMEZ are assured of minimal downtime as the building is equipped with 200 percent power back-up. All tenants will also enjoy tax incentives as locators of MEZ II, a special economic zone.

The building has been constructed between a planned hotel facility and the Pueblo Verde supermarket. The coffeeshops and casual dining outlets that will be housed at iMEZ’s ground level complement the range of entertainment and dining options available around Pueblo Verde. All spaces will allow al fresco dining, consistent with the relaxed ambiance of the Pueblo Verde development.

Pueblo Verde is designed around the modern Filipino-Hispanic theme, reminiscent of turn-of-the-century neighborhoods.

With pedestrian-friendly streetscapes, a relaxed atmosphere and a picturesque mix of shops, restaurants and cafés, the area attracts the a varied mix of patrons—expatriates and Filipinos working at MEZ II, residents of the numerous
subdivisions on Mactan Island and tourists visiting the island’s famed beaches.

Construction of iMEZ started in the second half of 2008. Aboitiz said the building’s completion is “right on target.” He added that AboitizLand is “currently negotiating with several prospective locators.” (PR)
