How to Add Strangers To Your Social Network

By Larry Easto

When you've added everyone you know to your contact list, it's time to contact strangers to add to your social network.

It's Not Personal

Just because you can contact strangers it doesn't mean that they will talk to you.

Many people simply choose not to speak to strangers. If they don't recognize the caller's name on their call display or the e-mail sender's name, they will most likely ignore the call and delete the message.

If your messages are not returned, don't assume that the person you called doesn't like you. Nor should you even consider it bad manners on their part. contact.

Strangers are not legally or morally obligated to talk to you.

Contact People Whose Names You Know

Normal conversations often include discussions of people you don't know. Although you may not know these people, you may be interested in what they are doing so would like to connect with them.

Perhaps others involved in the discussion may know them. If asked, these people might be willing to arrange an introduction or make a referral to the individuals whose names were mentioned.

If you can't make the connection though a mutual acquaintance, find out where the person works. Or do a Google search to find on-line references or relevant contact data.

Why Are You Making Contact?

Before contacting strangers, clarify why you are calling. Maybe it’s to learn more about the individual's activities, ask or a referral, or establish a mutually business relationship.

Or you may have something else in mind. Why do you want to speak to this person?

If you plan to make contact by phone, prepare a draft script that identifies who you are and why you are calling. This script will get you started on a live conversation. It will also serve as the outline of a voice mail message that you can leave. It might also be appropriate to identify yourself as a real estate agent and the market that you serve.

Once the call, or more likely, calls has been completed that person is no longer a stranger. He or she is now a contact who can be added to your data base. Don;t forget the appropriate follow-up, including a message thanking the person for talking to you.

Contact Strangers Whose Names You Don't Know

Regardless of what you need, there are probably millions of people who can help you. Your problem, is that you don't know who and where these individuals are.

You will come across many helpful people as you build and develop your business.

There are, however lots more helpful people...if only you could identify and make contact with them.

Today there is more information about more topics than ever before. This includes information about individuals who are very knowledgeable about specific topics. Somewhere on-line there will be reference of some kind to these people.

Start by identifying specific keywords and phrases that best describe your topic. Once you have identified appropriate keywords and phrases use the the major search engines—Google, Yahoo, and Live Search—to learn more.

Just because you don't know the names of people who might be able to help you, it doesn't mean they don't exist. It just means that you must work a little harder to identify and them.
