Thursday, June 7, 2012
ASIDE from its multi-million renovation program, resort hotel Mövenpick Resort and Spa Cebu, is also keen on tapping mid to large-scale Mice (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) business market from various industries.
In an interview, Mövenpick Cebu general manager Knuth Kiefer said the hotel will be aggressive in tapping the domestic market, particularly in Manila which produces a lot of middle-to-large scale Mice business from industries such as pharmaceutical, oil and gas and electronics.
He said the Mice market and social events will become a large focus of the hotel especially that they will embark on a major renovation program starting July 15.
“Overall, the resort will become more geared towards guests and companies looking for something new and exciting,” he said.
Korea, Philippines, Japan, Europe and the US are the strongest markets of the resort
hotel.
The hotel also sees market opportunities from Russia given the increasing interest of Russian tourists to visit Cebu, as their choice of vacation destination.
Records of the Tourism Department 7 show that Jan-Feb arrivals of Russian tourists to Cebu grew by 16.10 percent from 1, 863 arrivals in 2011 to 2, 163 this year.
“Russia, though still a highly seasonal market with guest arrivals mainly during December to March, is a key opportunity, especially those from the far east of Russia who connects via Korea,” Kiefer said.
Mövenpick Cebu earlier announced that it will undergo a major renovation program this year to provide better and attractive hotel experience to its major markets which include improvements on hotel room, swimming pool, restaurant and lounges among others.
The P200 million worth of hotel upgrade would result in a temporary suspension of hotel operations for five months.
While on upgrade, Mövenpick Cebu assistant director for Communications Joanna Cuenco announced that a large delegation from Mövenpick Cebu will participate in this year’s Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit to be held in Vladivostok, Russia on September 2 to 9.
“In support of the event the Philippines is assisting Russia in the need of human resource requirements by sending hotel personnel from Mövenpick to fill in the necessary vacancies for a period of one month, as part of the International Immersion Program of the Tourism Industry. This cooperation will also usher the renewal of the sisterhood ties between the city of Vladivostok and the City of Cebu which was established in 1996,” said Russian Federation Honorary consul Armi Lopez Garcia in a statement published in Sun.Star Cebu on Thursday.
