Newtown ‘next business hub’

Friday, November 16, 2012
PROPERTY market leader Megaworld Corp. is making its next move: south-bound.
Over the years, the company has been faithful to its “live, work, play” formula when it comes to the construction of its townships, and it’s the same mantra that they want to incorporate into their Cebu project, The Mactan Newtown, the company said in a press statement.
The 16-hectare development will be featuring luxury condominiums, entertainment hotspots plus an upscale hotel. The community, however, will be heavily-focused on BPO industries.

“We see a lot of potential for the BPO industry in Mactan, knowing that Cebu is another regional economic center. We’re aiming to tap the market there,” says Jericho Go, Megaworld first vice president of the Business Development and Leasing Group.
Megaworld struck a goldmine when it launched its first IT cyber-park in Eastwood City.
The company said it set the standard for their subsequent parks such as the one in McKinley Hill. Several companies, including HP and Wells Fargo, collectively employ 45,000 and 35,000 employees, respectively.
Being another exciting phase for Megaworld, the conception of ‘The Mactan Newtown’ was further catalysed by Cebu’s favourable economic climate.
“Cheaper labor, abundant manpower and affordable location make Cebu ripe for BPO businesses,” Go said. (PR)
