FOR Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, there is no need for Cebu to come up with a separate tourism slogan, as support is needed for the national campaign of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Garcia said that the previous marketing line, “Cebu, an island in the Pacific,” was never embraced by her, although, the marketing strategy has worked for Cebu.

“Whatever Cebu is doing, it’s helping us. In a larger sense, it will also help the Philippines. That’s how we should view these things, and that’s how we should proceed,” she said in a news conference yesterday.

Asked about the plans of the Provincial Government in promoting the current DOT slogan, It’s More Fun in the Philippines, Garcia said, Cebu has its local program known as Suroy-Suroy Sugbo.

“The Suroy-Suroy is fun!” Garcia said.

She saw the need to institutionalize this program along with her other initiatives like Pasigarbo sa Sugbo.

To assure continuity of the programs, she said, she appointed her daughter, lawyer Christina Frasco, as consultant on institutionalization.

The passage of an ordinance is part of the entire institutionalization process, Garcia said.

She said she expects Frasco to render a report on the proposals and the processes that would institutionalize the programs.

After the Sinulog festivities, the Provincial Capitol led by Garcia will tour balikbayans, through Suroy-Suroy, to the southern towns.

Around 200 tourists are expected to join, said Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale.
